Jamie McKenzie has found delight in the flight and chatter of birds for decades now, having grown up along Long Island Sound to awaken each morning to the cries of gulls and other sea birds. Having moved to the Pacific Northwest, he has added eagles, geese, herons, sandpipers and ravens to the crows, robins, grackles and sparrows that captured his attention during childhood.

The themes of flight and imagination run through many of these poems as Jamie explores the way our minds can take flight.

An internationally recognized writer, educator and speaker, Jamie enjoys sailing the inlets and bays of Puget Sound in his small Melonseed Skiff “flaneur.” On many days when the breeze slows, he simply drifts and follows birds in flight.
