Poetry by Jamie McKenzie

Twilight

Night descends
After all
Days
End
Regardless
Of wishes, dreams and lies

Night falls
Eventide
Like a friend
To some
Lost
To others
Wanting more

Night gathers
Loose ends
Into knots
Tied
Like bows
Or ribbons
On boxes

Night embraces
Enfolds
Seduces
And beckons
Like a lover
Eager
Expectant

We race through morning
Rush hour
To pause just briefly
At noon
Before dashing off again
Somewhere
Important
As the traffic builds up
Again
At day's end
And we scurry homeward
Hoping to catch
A few moments of sun
Rich and gold hued
Before the sky deepens to purple

We savor the day's end
Recalling the best of moments
Lingering like a lover's carress
As twilight
Bids us slide
Ever so slowly
Under the covers
Of approaching Night
