Slow Dancing

Antique
And charming
The elevator climbs
Very slowly
And they kiss
Very deeply
Floor after floor
After floor

A bell rings
The door opens
And the kiss stops
As he leads her
Hand in hand
Down the hallway
Key in hand

There are roses
And more roses
And champagne
Flutes
An ice bucket
And candles
She lights
Music
Soft and slow
Jazz standards from long ago

So they dance
Slow and easy
As Norah sings love songs
And they glide across the floor
Their bodies melding
Her hand on his neck
His hand on her neck
Stopping to kiss
Now and then
To make a toast

“To the future!”
“To our future!”

And they dance like this
For hours
Until dawn smiles through their windows
The champagne is finished
The candles are sputtering
And the bed is beckoning
They glide once more across the floor
Her dress and his pants left behind
Climbing into bed
Their pas de deux
Complet
