Moon Change

The moon has changed for me
in this month
low in my sky
over there in the night
there across the bay
more like butter now or cream
a deep, rich yellow
no longer pale
almost golden
like wheat in late afternoon bright sun
or sunflowers smiling from a field

The sky brightens
but it is not dawn
lights sparkle
here and there
but these are not stars

I stand awakened early morning
out on the porch
alone with the night
hearing music
watching the moon
the sky shifting
deepening
and I wonder
if it is me
or the moon
that has changed
