Melting away

The person we love
Or the person we think we love
May not be the person
We think they are
But instead
A figment of our imagination
An illusion of our own design
A cocktail of wistful and wishful thinking
As we give them
The benefit of the doubt
Ignore red flags
And plunge willfully
And recklessly
Into bliss and rapture
Like there is no tomorrow
As if the cotton candy dream we hold so dear
Will last
Endure
And never melt or fade
Away
