Poetry by Jamie McKenzie

Flight of Fancy

The snow scribbles across the landscape
Below
Like some child's errant hand
Wandering across a blackboard
With a big fat stick of chalk

We are so high above the craters
The lakes
The fields
And farms
They have lost their shapes
Exchanged their faces
For masks and disguises
Pretending on this winter day
To be clowns
Dimples
Or circus animals pulling
Wagons

We are sandwiched between land clouds
And their softly billowing cousins above us
Our wildest dreams
Our boldest imaginings
Caught for just this moment
Captured like some gaggle of snow geese
A flight of fancy
