Dumbstruck

This new year
Coming soon
Will be different
For sure
From the previous
Less bold
Dramatic
Risky
And
Flamboyant

I will stay close to home
Avoid airplanes
Trains
And foreign currencies
I will shop locally
Stick to my knitting
Tie up loose ends
And ignore the sirens’ call

This new year
Will find me deaf
And disinterested
No matter the song
The whispers
The promises
The lures
Or offers
I will be resolute
Dumbstruck
Struck dumb
Disinterested

But then again
Only time will tell
And resolutions
Like these
Are nothing more
Or less
Than wishful thinking
