Poetry by Jamie McKenzie

Coupled

We are all three coupled
Nesting
And perched
High above the street
The white gulls
The inkjet crows
You and I
Watching
From roof top
The weekend joggers
The bustling traffic
And bright sails
Slicing across the harbor
As if scurrying
As if hurrying
Like fiddler crabs
Or minnows
Chased by bigger fish

We gaze out upon this scene
As bystanders
Somehow
Above it all
Detached
Self contained
Resolute
Perched on the edge
Side by side
Where we belong
