The Year of Corona

It was the year of Corona
The virus
The plague
A year without mercy
Unforgiving
And austere
This COVID
Beast
Grimly tenacious
Determined
And resolute
Striking down the old
The infirm
And the careless
Those mask-defying
Honky-tonking
Deniers
Too young to die
It took one and all
The rich
The poor
The famous
And the homeless
The frontline workers
The backroom workers
The left wing
The right wing
The brash and foolish
The jovial and the morose
Any who caught the eye
Of the man in the long black coat
Corona took them all away
On a whim
Some to the ward
Some to the ICU
Some back home
And far too many
To the cemetery
